Cadbury's Product

I have chosen Cadbury's chocolate bar 'Wispa'. I have chosen the Wispa bar as it has been around for a long period of time and is one of Britain's top scored chocolate bars when surveyed- scoring 7th place. It is also one of my favorite Cadbury products and I believe that I would be passionate to sell it.

  • Cadbury's first launched the product in 1981 as a trial version in North East England, and with its success it was introduced nationally in 1983.
  • The chocolate bar can be eaten on the go as the chocolate bar is typically small weighing 36G per bar. I believe that the chocolate bar is targeted towards a younger audience due to the light-themed adverts that portray happy and energetic themes to sell to the viewer that have no deeper meaning other than to sell you a chocolate bar.
  • The packaging has a  purple colour- following a trend of all Cadbury's chocolate bars where purple is the predominant color.  Cadbury famously trademarked the colour purple for chocolates in registrations in 1955 and 2004.

  • Wispa's Bubble Rush advertisement uses bright colors and fun and energetic themes such as the character in the advertisement taking a bite out of the chocolate bar and then people appearing in bubble balloons around the character. After taking a bite out of the chocolate bar, the character seems joyful and in a good mood happily strolling across the forest. Due to its light-hearted themes and child-like atmosphere I believe that the advertisement is targeting a younger audience to go and try their chocolate bar due to the themes presented in the advertisement that may seem silly to an older audience.
The call to action of the product is for people to go and buy the Wispa Chocolate bar. The advertisement presents 'bubbly fun' whilst eating the chocolate bar and a happy character eating it shows the greatness of the product and that you'll have a good time eating the chocolate bar.

The audience appeal of the product is to make people want to buy the chocolate bar. Wispa attempts to show the deliciousness of the Wispa chocolate bar and make the viewer crave the chocolate bar.

Like they advertise on TV, Wispa also does multiple print advertisements like the one above. Here, they advertise the Wispa Bar with the Slogan "Hello, is it Wispa you're looking for?" The Slogan plays on Lionel Richie's "Hello" where they change "Hello, is it me you're looking for?" with "Hello, is it Wispa  you're looking for?" Wispa also shows the inside of their chocolates to show the viewer what the inside of their chocolate looks like in an attempt to show the uniqueness of the bar and how it's different from other chocolate bars in order to persuade them to buy it.

Here, at the end of the advertisement it shows the inside of the chocolate bar, this is to make the viewer find the chocolate bar appealing and think that it looks good to make them buy the product.

  •  Like this advertising campaign, I will use light-hearted and energetic themes that can target a wide-scale audience. With this, I can attract more people to buy Cadbury's chocolate as the theme of the advertisement isn't targeting a niche audience so I can attract more people.
  •  My new ideas for the campaign would be:
  1.  Having Bright and Colorful themes so that it attracts a wider scale audience.
  2.  Tell a Story within the Advert
  3. Include Mystery Offers
  4. Gain a positive reputation online
  5. Create a Giveaway

Relaunch Of Wispa's Bar

Wispa discounted the Wispa chocolate bar in 2003. However, a host of internet campaigns and an online pention to bring it back slowly attracted attention. During Iggy and the Stooges' 2007 performance several Wispa fans invaded the stage with a banner saying "Bring Back The Wispa".....

On the 24th of August 20017 the first box of relaunched Wispas was put up for auction on Ebay with a press release from Cadbury stating that the auction was real and that the proceeds were going towards the Cadbury's charity.

The bar returned on a permanent basis in October 2008. Prior to the permanent launch of Wispa for a limited time a Wispa McFlurry was available at McDonald's restaurants until 30th September 2008.
